Newcomers’ Guide
You can obtain a map (no legend) of Gray at City Hall, 109 James Street, for the cost of $1.50. The Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce offers a map (with legend) of the entire county for the cost of $2.00.
Here are a few locations to help you navigate Gray and Jones County:
City Hall Complex — (478) 986-5433 We are located at 109 James Street (Highway 18W), very close to the intersection of Highways 18W, 22, and 129. Complex houses City Hall, D.V. Childs Civic Center, and the Public Works Offices. The Fire Station is right next door.
Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce — (478) 986-1123 The Chamber Office is located in the heart of town at 161 W. Clinton Street. The Chamber has published an Information Directory that contains a wealth of information about both county and city. You can pick one up at their office. Call 478-986-1123 for more information.
Jones County Library — 156 Railroad Street — (478) 986-6626 From the traffic signal on the corner of Clinton and Railroad Street, follow the railroad tracks on Railroad Street for about 1/8 mile. The library is on your right. Continue traveling on Railroad Street, go straight through the four way stop intersection and you’ll find Gray Elementary School and then the Jones County High School on your left.
Jones County Health Department — 114 Forest Street — (478) 986-3164 Located behind the library.
Department of Family and Children Services — 141 James St. — (478) 986-3126 From the corner of Clinton and James Street (Highway 18W), follow the railroad tracks on James Street for about 1/8 mile. DFACS is on your left. Go a little bit further and you’ll find the Jones County Sheriff’s Department on your left.
Georgia Power Company — 102 MLK Jr. Blvd — (478) 986-3174 Georgia Power is located on the corner of Atlanta Road (Highway 11 to Monticello) and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Georgia Power services the City of Gray.
Tri-County Electric Membership Corporation — (478) 986-8100 Tri-County EMC is located on Gray Highway just outside city limits and services most of Jones County.
ALLTEL Georgia, Inc. — 215 Dolly Street — Customer Service (800) 501-1754 Dolly Street runs parallel to Clinton Street (main road through town) on the north side. From the corner of Jefferson St. and Clinton Street, go one block north to Dolly. Turn right and ALLTEL is the brick building on your left.
United States Post Office — 235 West Clinton Street — (800) The Post Office is located on the main road in Gray, between Ace Hardware and Subway. There is also a Post Office at the blinking traffic light in Haddock.
Jones County Government Center — 166 Industrial Blvd — (478) 986-6405 At the Government Center you can visit the Jones County Commissioners’ Office, County Administrator’s Office and the County Clerk’s Office for information. You can pay your taxes and get your car tags in the Tax Commissioner’s Office. The Tax Assessor, Planning and Zoning, District Attorney, Public Defender, Board of Election, Emergency Management, Department of Agriculture’s Soil Conservation, the Historic Preservation Committee, and the County Extension offices are all located here. Industrial Blvd. runs between Highway 11 (Atlanta Road) and 129 North (Eatonton Highway).
